In detail

## The differences that matter

Price at volume

Mailgun Foundation includes 100,000 emails for $75, so Mailgun costs less below 121,000 emails a month. Above that, Prontuno Standard is cheaper, with 500,000 emails for $99 and prepaid credits for anything beyond.

Logs

Mailgun keeps 1 day of logs on Basic and 5 days on Foundation. Thirty days needs Scale, from $90 a month. Prontuno keeps 30 days of delivery logs on every plan, including prepaid credits.

Features beyond sending

Mailgun offers inbound routing, address validation, and send-time optimization. Prontuno focuses on transactional sending: it does not offer validation, and inbound email is not available yet.

Support

Mailgun offers live phone and chat support on Scale. Prontuno offers email support on every plan.

Switching

## Move from Mailgun in four steps

1. Step 1 Request access and describe what your app sends. Applications are reviewed within 24 hours.
2. Step 2 Add your sending domain and publish the DNS records Prontuno generates. They use their own names, so your Mailgun records can stay while you switch.
3. Step 3 Change your SMTP settings, or update your API calls to Prontuno’s format, then send a test email.
4. Step 4 Add a webhook endpoint for delivery events, and import your suppression list through the API.

FAQ

## Questions about Prontuno and Mailgun

Is Prontuno cheaper than Mailgun?

Can I switch from Mailgun without rewriting my code?

If you send over SMTP, yes: only the host, port, and credentials change. Mailgun’s API uses similar field names, from, to, subject, and html, but sends them as form data. Prontuno takes JSON, so each send call needs updating. If your app sends email from one place, such as a mailer class, updating it is usually a small change.

When is Mailgun the better choice?

Mailgun is the better choice if you route inbound email to your application; you validate addresses before sending; you want phone and chat support; or you send marketing and transactional email together.

Do I need a new domain to switch from Mailgun?

No. Add your existing domain to Prontuno and publish the DNS records it generates. They use their own names, so your Mailgun records keep working until you finish switching.

Does Prontuno track opens and clicks?

No, by design. Prontuno sends your links and content exactly as written, so password reset and sign-in links are never rewritten through a tracking domain, and no tracking pixel is added. Delivery, deferral, and bounce events are still reported in your logs and webhooks. To measure clicks, add a parameter to links on your own domain and record it in your app.

Can I send marketing email with Prontuno?

No. Prontuno is for transactional email only, such as password resets, receipts, and account alerts. Every account is reviewed, which keeps marketing mail off the shared IPs. Newsletters and campaigns need a separate provider.
