In detail

## The differences that matter

Price at volume

SendGrid Essentials includes 100,000 emails for $34.95, then bills overages, so SendGrid costs less below 171,000 emails a month. Above that, Prontuno Standard is cheaper, with 500,000 emails for $99.

Delivery history

SendGrid keeps 3 days of searchable email activity on Essentials and 7 days on Pro, with more available to buy. Prontuno keeps 30 days of delivery logs on every plan.

Dedicated IPs

SendGrid includes a dedicated IP on Pro, from $89.95 a month, and Essentials sends from shared IPs. Prontuno includes a dedicated IP with Unlimited, and its shared IPs carry only reviewed transactional mail.

Breadth

SendGrid offers features Prontuno does not, including inbound parsing, address validation, subusers, and a marketing product. Prontuno focuses on sending transactional email and showing you what happened to each message.

### Choose Prontuno if

Switching

## Move from SendGrid in four steps

1. Step 1 Request access and describe what your app sends. Applications are reviewed within 24 hours.
2. Step 2 Add your sending domain and publish the DNS records Prontuno generates. They use their own names, so your SendGrid records can stay while you switch.
3. Step 3 Change your SMTP settings, or update your API calls to Prontuno’s format, then send a test email.
4. Step 4 Add a webhook endpoint for delivery events, and import your suppression list through the API.

FAQ

## Questions about Prontuno and SendGrid

Is Prontuno cheaper than SendGrid?

At a $99 monthly budget, Prontuno Standard sends 500,000 emails and SendGrid sends 171,000. Prontuno sends more at that budget, but SendGrid can cost less at lower volumes. Check your own volume in the

Can I switch from SendGrid without rewriting my code?

If you send over SMTP, yes: only the host, port, and credentials change. SendGrid’s v3 API nests recipients in personalizations and the body in a content array, so each send call needs rewriting for Prontuno’s flatter from, to, subject, and html fields. If your app sends email from one place, such as a mailer class, updating it is usually a small change.

When is SendGrid the better choice?

SendGrid is the better choice if you need marketing campaigns alongside transactional email; you need email address validation; you manage many customers through subusers; or you need inbound email parsing.

Do I need a new domain to switch from SendGrid?

No. Add your existing domain to Prontuno and publish the DNS records it generates. They use their own names, so your SendGrid records keep working until you finish switching.

Does Prontuno track opens and clicks?

No, by design. Prontuno sends your links and content exactly as written, so password reset and sign-in links are never rewritten through a tracking domain, and no tracking pixel is added. Delivery, deferral, and bounce events are still reported in your logs and webhooks. To measure clicks, add a parameter to links on your own domain and record it in your app.

Can I send marketing email with Prontuno?

No. Prontuno is for transactional email only, such as password resets, receipts, and account alerts. Every account is reviewed, which keeps marketing mail off the shared IPs. Newsletters and campaigns need a separate provider.
