Authoritative nameservers
These servers publish the active DNS records for the domain.
Where to update DNS records
Nameservers point to the service that hosts the active DNS zone. This is often different from the domain registrar.
- Nameservers
- Authoritative nameservers answer DNS queries using the records stored in the domain’s active zone.
- DNS provider
- Recognizable nameserver hostnames can identify the dashboard where A, MX, TXT, and other records are managed.
- Domain registrar
- The registrar controls nameserver delegation, but DNS records are normally edited at the provider named by that delegation.
